AVG is a solid choice for security against cyberattacks. It has a great feature pack, excellent malware protection scores, and a decent cost. However, it also had some issues during our tests, including being heavy on system resources and having a few false positives.

AVG’s interface is simple and clear design. Its dashboard informs you if your computer is protected and allows you to run a manual scan through its menu. Its settings allow you the ability to customize scans and notifications, black- or white-list applications, and control what information AVG shares with its parent company. AVG includes several extra tools like a file shredder as well as a do not disturb mode that keeps you from being interrupted when playing games or watching movies.

Its security features include firewalls, an antivirus scanner, a password manager, and a social media protection that flags suspicious websites or messages. Its anti-phishing security is superb and its Enhanced Firewall offers additional features like data leakage protection and ARM Spoofing Alerts. The firewall is particularly strong on public networks since it utilizes machine learning to learn what is normal and not and then automatically adjust.

AVG provides a range of support options, including forums, online communities, and a comprehensive Knowledge Base. You can also contact the customer service via email or through a chat feature on the website. The free version doesn’t have annoying upgrade prompts, but you’ll be required to navigate through pop-up ads when using the program.
